Hollow Cup Motor Industry: Core Components of Robot Hands
The hollow cup motor is a special type of DC motor.
Traditional DC motors are widely used in industrial production, household appliances, transportation and other fields, consisting of two core parts: the stator and rotor. The stationary part of the DC motor during operation is called the stator. The main function of the stator is to generate a magnetic field, which is composed of the frame, main magnetic pole, commutation pole, end cover, bearings, and brush device. Commonly used stator magnet materials include neodymium iron boron, samarium cobalt, aluminum nickel cobalt, and ferrite. The rotating part during operation is called the rotor, which is mainly used to generate electromagnetic torque and induced electromotive force. It is the hub for energy conversion in DC motors, so it is usually called an armature, consisting of a shaft, armature iron core, armature winding, commutator, and fan
The hollow cup motor breaks through the structural form of traditional DC motors and adopts a coreless rotor. Its armature winding is a hollow cup coil with a shape similar to a water cup, so it is called a “hollow cup motor”. The hollow cup motor belongs to DC, permanent magnet, and servo micro special motors. This novel rotor structure endows hollow cup motors with the following excellent characteristics: ① energy-saving characteristics: the coreless design completely eliminates the electrical energy loss caused by eddy currents formed by the iron core, and the energy conversion efficiency is very high. Its maximum efficiency is generally above 70%, and some products can reach over 90% (iron core motors generally reach 70%); ② Control characteristics: Quick starting and braking, extremely fast response, mechanical time constant less than 28 milliseconds, and some products can reach up to 10 milliseconds (iron core motors generally exceed 100 milliseconds); Under high-speed operation within the recommended operating area, it is convenient to adjust the speed sensitively; ③ Dragging characteristics: The running stability is very reliable, and the fluctuation of speed is very small. As a micro motor, the fluctuation of speed can be easily controlled within 2%; ④ Lightweight characteristics: Compared with iron core motors of the same power, its weight and volume are reduced by 1/3-1/2, and its energy density is significantly increased. The core indicator of a hollow cup motor is power density, which is the ratio of output power to weight or volume. The coreless rotor eliminates eddy current and hysteresis losses at the molecular end, improving energy conversion efficiency; Reduced weight and volume at the denominator end.
